Beijing based composer Bruce Gremo, is also Peking Sinfonietta principle flutist and multiple flute recitalist performing on the bass-flute, alto-shakulute, shakuhachi, glissando-flute, bansuri, and xun. Classical repertoire and improvisation, pitch-tracking computer application composition and traditional score, east-west, old-new, functional-ecstatic; all these interests arise from a mixed background in graduate academic composition, free-improvisation and experimentation in NYC (1986 – 2006), and industry work as a studio musician. He has been soloist with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, at Wien Modern, the BBC Proms Festival (Royal Albert Hall,) the Knitting Factory Jazz Festival under Ornette Coleman’s direction. Inventor of the Cilia (a patented flute-controller), recipient of numerous awards, his music has been performed around the world.
