Jin Ping is currently a professor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Prior to his return to China in 2008, he was a tenured professor and Director of the Theory and Composition Program at the State University of New York at New Paltz.
Jin Ping’s music has been commissioned and performed in the US, Europe and China by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati Pop Orchestra, EarPlay, Bang On A Can, Newstead Trio, and Trio Clavino.
Jin Ping is also active in new media field. His interactive dance The Rhyme of Tang Dynasty was performed at SIGGRAPH2007 in San Diego. He created original music for Tamiko Thiel’s interactive 3D virtual reality installation (collaborated with Tamiko Thiel), which was also exhibited at SIGGRAPH2007. His interactive sound installation was presented at Beijing Modern Music Festival in 2012.
Jin Ping was born in China. He studied composition at the Central Conservatory of Music. In 1990 he came to the United States to study composition at Syracuse University and the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, where he received his doctorate. His teachers include Xiaogang Ye, Du Mingxin, Joseph Downing, Dan Godfrey, Joel Hoffman, and Samuel Adler.
