As a young boy, fascinated by science-fiction and horror movies, he undertakes his first contacts with electroacoustic sounds. At the age of 8 he went to the music academy in Louvain to study music theory and flute. During high school, he learned to play electric guitar and effects pedals by playing in a music band with his friends. After high school he continued having interest in music which made him decide to study classical music and flute at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. There he found his real passion in the studio for composition of electroacoustic music under guidance of Joris de Laet. Since then Roeland works as a composer, musician and sound engineer along with various theatre and dans productions in collaboration with choreographers in Belgium and abroad. His music has been played and has recieved prizes throughout the world.
2004: Nomination in the category of multimedia on the "31ème Concours International de Musique et d'Art Sonore Electroacoustique" at Bourges (France) for the music of the dance performance "roest", a production of VZW Kwaadbloed.
2005: Third prize at the "5th International Computer Music Competition, Pierre Schaeffer 2005" in Italy for the piece "Decyclage".
2010: Special mention at the "6th Biennial Acousmatic Composition Competition Métamorphoses" in Brussels for the piece "Hooks".
2010: Finalist at the "8th International competition for Composers Città di Udine Contemporane'" in Italy for the work "Hooks".
2012: Nominated on the Fifth International Competition of Electroacoustic Composition and Visual-music by The Foundation Destellos in Argentina.
