Composer and theorist, graduated at Universidad de Los Andes in 2000, Bogotá, Colombia, under the direction of Luis Pulido. He obtained his master’s degree in Music Theory and Composition at TCU’s school of music, Fort Worth, Texas, in 2003 under the direction of Dr. Gerald Gabel. He has participated in various courses with composers such as Coriún Aharonián, Graciela Paraskevaídis, Brian Ferneyhough, Rodrigo Sigal, between others. He has been awarded with different academic merits, such as a Graduate Assistantship from the Graduate School of Arts at TCU, consecutive winner in the years 2002 and 2003 of the Jonathan Durington Student Composition Award. He was the founder and consequently coordinator of the Composition Program of the Music Department at Universidad El Bosque, Bogotá, Colombia, from the year 2003 until 2008. There, he participated in the XIII institutional investigation congress as a composer-lecturer (2005). He has participated as jury for the Otto de Greiff National Award as well as in the National Contest of Music Composition “Ciudad de Bogotá”, Colombia, 2007. He participated in November 2009 in the VII biennial Latin American Music Festival in TCU, Fort Worth, TX, USA as a composer-performer / lecturer. García is an Associate Professor at the Music Department of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia, dedicated full time in the fields of music teaching, composing and research. In the present he is undertaking his PhD studies at the Music Department of the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, with Dr. Scott Wilson and Professor Jonty Harrison. His pieces, in which he uses various mediums of expression, from acoustic instruments to electroacoustics and live electronics, have been performed in different contemporary music festivals in North America, Latin America and Europe.
